Receipt Insights Privacy Policy

Effective October 9, 2026 (updated for Pro)

Receipt Insights is a browser extension that turns your Costco receipts into a personal spending dashboard. It was built so that your purchase data stays on your own computer. This policy explains exactly what the extension accesses and what it does with it.

The short version

What the extension accesses

Your Costco receipts and online orders. When you click "Sync receipts", the extension requests your in-warehouse, gas station, and online order history from Costco, using the costco.com session you are already signed in to. That data includes dates, warehouse locations, items, prices, discounts, taxes, totals, and order numbers. Costco's response can also include payment details such as card type, which the extension stores along with the rest of the receipt.

Your costco.com sign-in session. To make those requests, the extension reads the session token that costco.com itself stores in your browser, and sends it only to Costco's own servers. The extension never sees, asks for, or stores your Costco password, and it never sends your session token anywhere other than Costco.

Where your data is stored

Receipt data is saved in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device. It is not synced to your Google account or to any server. You can delete it at any time by removing the extension, which permanently deletes everything it stored.

Payments for Pro

Receipt Insights is free to use, with optional paid "Pro" features. Payments and free trials are handled by ExtensionPay, with card payments processed by Stripe. When the extension starts, ExtensionPay stores a random ID in your browser's extension storage and uses it to check whether you have paid or started a trial. If you buy Pro or start a trial, you give your email address (and, for purchases, your payment details) directly to ExtensionPay and Stripe, under their own privacy policies. We never see your card details, and your Costco receipts are never shared with either service. Purchases appear on card statements as "ELO APPS", the business name Receipt Insights is sold under.

How your data is used

Your data is used only to show you your dashboard (spending summaries, charts, the Executive membership estimate, item price history) and to create CSV files when you click "Export CSV". Exported files are saved where you choose and are under your control.

What we don't do

The use of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this policy

If a future version adds any feature that sends data off your device, such as optional price-drop alerts, it will be off by default, you will be asked before it is turned on, and this policy will be updated before that version is released.
